Spicy Yellowfin Tuna and Guacamole Tostadas

  • 2 6 oz yellowfin tuna steaks
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 3 Tbsp black and white sesame seeds, plus more for garnish
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • sriracha mayo to taste
  • 4 tostada shells

For Guacamole

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, minced
  • 1 Tbsp red onion, minced
  • 2 Tbsp fresh cilantro, minced
  • 2 Tbsp ponzu sauce
  • 1 cup edamame, steamed and shelled
  • salt and pepper to taste


  1. For the tuna, add the toasted sesame oil to a large non-stick skillet, and heat over medium-high heat. Season both sides of the tuna steaks with salt and pepper to taste, and then coat both sides in the sesame seeds. Sear tuna just until rare or medium-rare, about 1-2 minutes on each side. Transfer the tuna to a cutting board, cut the tuna into 1 inch cubes and set aside.
  2. For the guacamole, remove the skins and pits from the avocado, place in a large bowl and mash. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the jalapeno pepper, red onion, cilantro, ponzu sauce and edamame until combined.
  3. To serve, divide guacamole evenly amongst the tostada shells, and then top with the tuna, divided evenly amongst the tostada shells. Drizzle the sriracha mayo atop the tostadas and garnish with additional sesame seeds.
