Hit the Hot Spots in Burlington, Vt.
Where you want to eat and drink in this quaint Vermont town
If you're anything like me, you spend way too much time trying to find the hip spots when you visit a new city. Truth is, I know ultimately any of the places I'm looking into will generally supply a tasty experience. But not everyone wants to spend all their time seeing what a city can offer, so we're doing it for you. Next time you find yourself in Burlington, Vt., here are three places to check out.
Whether it's a blues band, a drag show, a local musician's album release or even a live Moth story slam, ArtsRiot is the place to hit for live entertainment. But it's also where you can indulge in inventive Asian-inspired fare like golden tiger coconut curry with a smattering of healthy vegetables; a pair of egg rolls stuffed with local pork, cabbage and kale; or a spring garlic shrimp and squid hot pot. Of course, there's a full bar with rotating cocktails with clever names like the mezcal-based Oaxaca Shame, which could also double as one of the drag performers, amiright?
You may not think of Vermont as the place for eastern Mediterranean cuisine, but thankfully the folks at Honey Road did. This mezze spot received two semifinalist nods for the 2018 James Beard Awards, including best new restaurant. Visit this warm space with plenty of natural light for lamb-filled grape leaf dolmas; chicken wings in a sweet harissa; and plenty of veg-focused plates like the bok choi, lentils and pistachios with spicy tahini.
When you want true farm-to-table, seasonal and daily changing dining, head just outside Burlington to Winooski where you'll find the ironically named Misery Loves Company. Just looking at the beautifully plated dishes with local produce, flowers and other smile-inducing food really can't provide anything other than happiness.
